Research by Lisa R. Yanek, M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins and her colleagues reveals that people with a family history of heart disease having a positive outlook towards life were one-third less likely to have a heart attack within 5 to 25 years than those with a negative outlook.
Positive thinking reduces stress and anxiety significantly and thus increases the chance for a better life. This proved by the interventional study conducted on 70 hemodialysis patients referred to Fasa hemodialysis centers, in Iran, between April 2019 and October 2019.
The patients were divided into two groups, 35 patients each. One group was provided with intervention therapy of positive thinking, and it was observed that there was a significant effect on the patient’s quality of life. There is an increase in patients’ self-efficacy and adaptability.
Enormous differences are shown in the stress and anxiety data of the two groups.
In this way, positive thinking can rewire the brain for success through neuroplasticity. The constantly changing brain adopts good and bad life experiences, and thus, our coping mechanisms develop.
Therefore, a positive outlook trains the mind to cope with problems positively and seek solutions, as the brain is already trained that every problem has a solution, and we succeed in finding so.
