Though the author of this book completed writing it within 2 weeks.
This book has lessons that are fiction but the life lessons given can change our lives immensely.
Surely, it had a lot to teach us.
The story of this book revolves around a boy Santiago, who is a Spanish shepherd.
He has chosen this work because at that time those who herd sheep got the chance to travel to different places.
One day Santiago was sitting under a tree in front of a church when he dreamt that far near the pyramid in Egypt there is a lot of buried treasure but when he woke up he think is this really true or just a dream?
To validate this he goes to a tarot card reader and that lady tells him that it’s true you can get the treasure near the pyramid.
He comes out and thinks this is fake, it was just a dream.
When he was sitting outside there an old man comes to him and says you will get that treasure because that lady is saying please give 10% of that treasure to me.
Santiago thinks okay then I have to go to Egypt but I don’t have money.
Then, he sells all his goats for money, to move ahead in the journey.
Some life-changing lessons
In this book, the author has very well explained some of the life-learning lessons which are an eye opener for all of us.
Sacrifice
So the first thing we learn from the lesson in this book is Sacrifice.
Whenever we move ahead toward the path shown by the universe then we have to make the sacrifices, as Santiago has made.
He sold all his sheep so that he can move forward in that journey.
Some have to sacrifice sleep, some have to leave the house.
Gautam has left the house to become Buddha.
The meaning of saying this is that if you are making sacrifices in your life it means that you are on the right track.
Maybe these things like taking less sleep, traveling more, doing more exercise, studying more, or anything which looks like a sacrifice now will afterward on looking back look like the way to reach success which leads to your destiny.
Santiago sacrifices and moves forward.
He reaches an unknown place.
He knows nothing, he doesn’t even know the language spoken there.
People are different, culture is different. A lot of difficulties he faced there in the story.
Courage
Whenever we move forward toward our destiny, whenever we decided to move forward then it doesn’t mean that we didn’t get frightened or the universe will ease the way.
It means we will face challenges and fears but we will face that with courage.
We will accept that uncomfortable situation.
This is the learning we get from this part of the book whenever you observe courage in yourself while facing a difficult situation, whenever your heart says you can do it you will cross this situation then you are on right track.
In between the story, a man took all his money.
Santiago doesn’t know how much distance he will cover, how far the place is, and whether there is money or not but his belief in himself and his courage in him forces him forward and this is the sign of the universe to let you know that you are moving in the right direction.
Be Personal Legend
In this book, a very beautiful word is used “Personal Legend”.
It means we have to face many obstacles to become our better versions.
We have to overcome the problems and make them our stepping stones to move ahead. This is done by Santiago.
Recognize signs given by the universe
When a man robbed all his money than he thought of quitting it but then he is reached by a man, an alchemist who told him to recognize the signs of the universe.
When we become aware and start recognizing the signs of the universe, which we usually tend to ignore or didn’t pay attention to then we find how much we have already grown up and, how much we have learned.
Santiago then realized and now for moving ahead he needs money so he went to a shop to ask for employment and there he gets work.
This work is not only lucky for him but also for the employer, as Santiago earns a lot of money and the employer also makes progress.
His shop now runs well and he starts multiple works from there.
Now a time comes when Santiago has enough money and if he goes back he can buy more sheep than he ever has.
He can settle and enjoy his life but he reminds himself that the universe has not sent him here for this only.
Then, again he moves forward and after facing many problems at last he reaches his destination Egypt and reaches the pyramid which he has seen in his dreams.
He started digging that pyramid thinking that he will get gold, the treasure and this is the most beautiful lesson of this book.
Go with intuition
When he digs a lot for gold and he didn’t get anything then a boy with him stops him and says friend this doesn’t happen.
Listen, two days before I have seen treasure below a tree in front of a black church in Spain but this doesn’t mean I will go there and start searching for it.
Then Santiago finds that what he is saying is correct and treasure is not here but there in Spain.
His intuition forces him to believe this.
Santiago returns to Spain and now he finds that black church and starts digging under the tree which is in front of that church.
And at last, he finds gold.
So this universe has already planned things for us in which we have to face many obstacles and this is because the universe wants us to become more efficient and thus rewards something very good.
If you look you will find that treasure is there only in Spain where Santiago belongs but Santiago is not that Santiago.
He has changed.
He is now a better version and gold, the treasure is in the fate of a better Santiago.
He has to become something, and he has to follow the process, if we connect with our true version, then it will give every bliss and abundance but this internal self also wants us to face some obstacles in life, and learn some lessons.
By facing these lessons we become a better version and this is well understood through this book.
Conclusion
It is all about finding your Personal Legend and pursuing your dream regardless of any hurdles, and about being spiritually connected to the universe, which is part of us, and part of God.
We are all one.
Similarly, you will see that if a person becomes successful then he must have followed the process, and made sacrifices, he has shown courage, when he decided to move forward without quitting when he has obstacles as stepping stones, and when recognized the signs given by the universe.
Hence, cultivate the above qualities to become successful.
This is the deep and meaningful truth of life.
