Is There a Way to Digital Detox Without Unplugging it Completely?
There are always two ways of doing things mostly. It depends on the person which way to adopt. The first way is a complete digital detox. And, the second is digital detox without unplugging it completely.
If you are strong enough to say a complete bye to the digital world for days, weeks, or months or simply if your work rolls out without the usage or you can take such long breaks from the technology then only opt this way. Think and answer yourself and enjoy its long-term benefits as discussed in the previous article.
However, if we want to practice it just to balance our lives and remind ourselves that there is something wrong with this addictiveness then move ahead with the second option.
Without unplugging one can have a digital detox in the following ways
- Decide and schedule time away from the screen throughout the day
Try to spend time without a screen. Resist the thoughts of using digital items. Not bringing the phone where you sit or work, silencing the notifications, and distracting by engaging somewhere else are some of the helpful ways.
- Taking periodic breaks from the technology
In my case, I have chosen to use my cell phone only once in 2 hours to look for messages or alerts. Decide and restrict yourself from overuse.
- Downgrade your Phone
This is the best way of making less use of digital items. Make it less appealing by not applying brighter backgrounds, light settings should also be low and less impactful, and keep only needed apps on the phone. Time-engaging apps should be deleted.
- Turn off the phone for a specific time
If you are unable to control yourself by touching the phone or looking at then the best way is to keep it switched off for some time. So that you can be mentally free relax for a while and focus on what is needed.
- Create no phone zones
Like my bedroom is a no phone zone. This gives me time to relax my mind for perfect sleep.
You can make no phone zones at home, at the gym, at work, or anywhere preferred.
All these are some ways to control your longing for phone or digital items. Initially, it may feel worse.
However, digital detox makes us significantly aware in our head that more usage of it is harmful and time away from it makes us lighter, happier, and more fulfilling with our lives and goals.
